Originally built for the 1980 XXII Olympics, the Olympiysky Sports Complex is one of the country’s most prominent and advanced athletic facilities, boasting a covered stadium with seating capacity of 35,000 to accommodate spectators. In addition to housing an Olympic-sized swimming pool, the complex is capable of hosting athletics, basketball, volleyball, gymnastics, tennis, boxing, hockey and figure skating events. One of the key features of the complex is sound-proof isolated panels which allow for the central arena to be transformed from a 105x69 m. covered stadium into many individual sectors within two hours.
Located in the north central part of Moscow the complex is conveniently tied to major transport and commute routes of downtown Moscow and directly accessed by Prospect Mira subway station. Out of town guests will find the location convenient as the complex is neighboured by the city’s three major railway stations – Leningradsky, Yaroslavsky, and Kazansky. Additionally, the complex is surrounded by world-class dining and shopping for the comfort of all spectators. The combination of these factors make Olympiysky a second to none choice as the 2010 WTTC venue.
